Frequently Asked Questions

who can attend buckeye boys state?

Delegates are interviewed as high school juniors and then attend the program the following summer. Delegates must be sponsored by an American Legion post. Exchange students are not able to attend.

Where will i be living at the program?

You will be staying in one of Miami University’s residence halls. This will give you the exciting experience of living on a college campus, eating from the university dining halls, and using their academic buildings.

Can parents come to visit the program?

Parents are able to visit during the afternoon and evening on the last Saturday of the program to observe activities. Parents can also attend the graduation on the following day in Millett Hall.

What does this program cost?

All delegate costs are covered by the sponsoring American Legion post; therefore, there is no cost to the delegate to attend. Transportation via bus to Miami University may be available to you as well.

How can i prepare for the program?

All selected delegates are expected to attend a local in-person or virtual orientation around April-May. These orientations are designed to walk you through next steps, what to expect, and a timeline of the program.

Am i able to pick my roommate?

Delegates are randomly divided across Buckeye Boys State cities and counties. There is a very small chance your roommate will be from your same high school or even same sponsoring post.

We hope you’ll join us at MIami University!
